Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS, Federal Border Guard) is the former name of the German Bundespolizei (Federal Police).
Established on 16 March 1951 the BGS originally was primarily focused on protecting the West German borders.
The BGS was renamed Bundespolizei on 1 July 2005. West Germany (Westdeutschland) is the term used to describe the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG, Bundesrepublik Deutschland) from its formation on 23 May 1949 until the reunification of Germany through the accession of East Germany on 3 October 1990.
