In 1889 the two islands (Trinidad and Tobago) became a single British crown colony.
Trinidad and Tobago was granted self-governance in 1958 and independence from the United Kingdom in August 1962.
It became a republic in September 1976.
Across many parts of the world, including the UK, belt buckles largely disappeared from nurses' uniforms in the late 20th century (around the 1980s and 1990s) due to evolving uniform styles and stricter infection control measures.
