Surrey Constabulary was established on 1 January 1851.
In 1943 Surrey Constabulary, Reigate Borough Police and Guildford Borough Police were merged as a temporary emergency war-time measure under the title of Surrey Joint Police Force.
On 1 April 1947 the name reverted back to Surrey Constabulary with permanent inclusion of the Reigate and Guildford forces.
In 1993 Surrey Police replaced Surrey Constabulary. Surrey Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing the county of Surrey in South East England.
