The Royal Regiment of Canada is a Primary Reserve infantry regiment, and is one of Canada's finest and oldest light infantry units.
Infantry soldiers are the Canadian Army's primary combat fighters and are responsible for closing with and engaging the enemy.
On 15 December 1936 the Royal Grenadiers were amalgamated with The Toronto Regiment and redesignated as The Royal Regiment of Toronto Grenadiers.
Redesignated 11 February 1939 as the Royal Regiment of Canada.
Supplemented 7 November 1940 by the formation of the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Canada for home service.
