Formed on 17 March 1911.
In action at Gallipoli, France and Egypt during World War One as part of the Auckland Regiment.
Served with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force during World War Two and supplied companies to the 18th, 21st, 24th and 29th Battalions.
Renamed the Northland Regiment on 17 August 1951.
Cap badge: Regimental number between fern-fronds within a circle with ‘Pour Devoir’ and ‘North Auckland’ and surmounted by a Tudor (King's) crown. The fern leaves symbolise New Zealand and the crown symbolises loyalty to the monarch.
The Regiment's motto 'Pour devoir' is French for ‘For right’.
