By November 1986, the 83rd Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Main Command of the Western Direction was created on the territory of Poland (the city of Bialogard) on the basis of the 65th Airborne Assault Battalion.
In 1990, the unit became the 83rd Airborne Brigade after being resubordinated to the command of the Airborne Troops. In the same year, the 83rd Airborne Assault Brigade was transferred from Poland to Ussuriyskiy.
On March 27, 1990, the 83rd Separate Air Assault Brigade was reorganized into the 83rd Ussuriyskiy Brigade.
