The Parachute Regiment (Paras) is the airborne and elite infantry regiment of the British Army.
The Parachute Regiment was formed on 22 June 1940 during the Second World War.
A paratrooper or military parachutist is a soldier trained to conduct military operations by parachuting directly into an area of operations, usually as part of a large airborne forces’ unit.
The badge consists of a pair of wings outspread horizontally, in the centre of which is an opened parachute surmounted by the Royal Crest (a lion and crown). The wings symbolise the regiment's airborne operational role.
