Australian Army (ALH) WW1 Rising Sun Hat badge.

$70.00

A brass King's (Tudor) crown "Rising Sun" hat badge for the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces. Australia.
This British made badge, with slider bar, was used by the Australian Light Horse in World War One (WW1, WWI) and dated 1914 to 1918. I believe also worn by the Australian Imperial Force 3rd Division on their slouch hats with the brim turned down.
Third pattern "Rising Sun" emblem.

Good condition with slider intact. Ref: CCC1.

The Rising Sun badge, also known as the General Service Badge or the Australian Army Badge, is the official insignia of the Australian Army.
The badge was originally called the General Service Badge, but is now officially labelled the Australian Army Badge. It will, however, always be referred to as the Rising Sun Badge.
There are seven patterns of the Rising Sun.
The Rising Sun has evolved over time and today Australian Army soldiers wear the seventh pattern.
The badge was created in 1903 and was adopted as the General Service Badge in 1911.
1st pattern: 1902. Star shaped Rising Sun with King's crown and "AUSTRALIA" above the crown.
2nd Pattern: 1902 - 1904. Rising Sun with King's crown and "AUSTRALIAN" above the crown. On scroll below the words "Commonwealth Horse".
3rd pattern: 1904 - 1949. The third pattern Rising Sun badge carried a scroll inscribed with the words ‘Australian Commonwealth Military Forces’ and was worn throughout both World Wars. King's crown.
4th pattern: 1949 - 1953. Corps and regimental badges were reintroduced into the Army and the inscription on the scroll was changed to ‘Australian Military Forces’.
5th pattern: 1953 - 1969. The fifth pattern badge substituted the King's (Tudor) Crown with the Queen's (St Edwards) Crown.
6th pattern: 1969 - 1991. The sixth pattern badge went through another alteration, with the introduction of the Federation Star above a heraldic wreath. The inscription was once again changed to read ‘Australia’. This design was never fully issued.
7th pattern: 1991 onwards. The seventh pattern is the current design and was produced with ‘The Australian Army’ on the scroll and the removal of the Federation Star and heraldic wreath.
