Oval embroidered Australian Army Rising Sun cloth shoulder badge.
The rising Sun is embroidered in gold on a khaki background. It features the words 'THE AUSTRALIAN ARMY' and a Queen's Crown.
The oval shoulder badge replaced the square shoulder badge in about 1992, but there are still square ones being worn by older soldiers. Both were worn on the top left sleeve on the service dress jacket, the polyester shirt and the utility jacket.
The Rising Sun badge, also known as the General Service Badge or the Australian Army Badge, is the official insignia of the Australian Army.
The badge was originally called the General Service Badge, but is now officially labelled the Australian Army Badge. It will, however, always be referred to as the Rising Sun Badge.
The seventh pattern, used from 1991.
The seventh pattern - 1991. The current design was produced with ‘The Australian Army’ on the scroll and the removal of the Federation Star and heraldic wreath.
